Customers supporting FS-AI: Firmtech Engineering Backs IMechE Competition
Firmtech Engineering. based in Heyford Park Innovation Centre is proud to be a supporter of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Formula Student Artificial Intelligence competition (FS-AI). In this exciting challenge, student teams tackle the design of control systems and software for an autonomous, driverless racing car. For more details about the competition, visit the IMechE website: Formula Student AI.
Heyford Park Innovation Centre: Home of ADS-DVs
Recently relocating to the Heyford Park Innovation Centre in May 2024, Firmtech Engineering Ltd. swiftly completed the assembly of two new Autonomous Driving System Dedicated Vehicles (ADS-DVs) on behalf of IMechE. These cutting-edge vehicles feature a DJ Racecars chassis and a sophisticated system of batteries, motors, actuators, and electronics. The integrated setup allows an Artificial Intelligence software stack to autonomously ‘drive’ the vehicle. Firmtech’s design represents a ‘next-generation’ implementation with enhanced features, and all the assembly work and control system software development occurred at Heyford Park.
Formula Student UK: Dynamic Competition at Silverstone
Following completion, the two new vehicles joined the existing pair for Formula Student UK, held at the Silverstone Race Circuit from July 17th to 21st, 2024. The FS-AI competition drew 20 entries from around the world. Teams engaged in both static and dynamic events to accumulate points. Static events evaluated software quality and team members’ knowledge, while dynamic events unfolded on a track marked by cones. The faster a vehicle navigated the track, the higher its score.
The 2024 FS-AI overall winners were the Edinburgh University Formula Student DDT team.
