SUMMARY:Cutting Edge AI and Machine Learning – and How to Patent It
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Thursday 14 November at 9am\, for a breakfast talk at Begbroke Science Park on artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)\, with Dr Martin Bell and Julian Asquith from Marks & Clerk LLP. \nIn this talk\, they will discuss the latest research in AI and ML\, showcasing recent results with a focus on medical and physical sciences. They will provide an overview of how these results are achieved and explain how companies can protect their intellectual property (IP) in this area\, primarily through patents. \nIf you’re looking to gain a better understanding of how AI works\, or if you’re already using AI and want to learn how IP can protect your research from being copied by competitors and convert it into valuable IP assets\, reserve your spot.

SUMMARY:IMechE’s EV BATTERIES: ELECTRIFIED VEHICLE ENGINEERING
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 edition of the IMechE’s EV Batteries conference will give all attendees the opportunity to gain insight into the engineering challenges associated with bringing battery electric vehicles (BEVs)\, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) to market. \nTaking place on 12-13 November 2024 at the British Motor Museum in Warwick\, attend the EV Batteries 2024 conference to hear about the latest developments in cost-efficient design\, infrastructure challenges\, testing and monitoring across all BEVs\, hybrids and off-road vehicles as well as marine and rail application areas. \nWhether it be tackling energy density to enable longer journeys and a reduction of battery size or making high voltage charging safe\, the imperative to improve cost efficient design and drive market sales requires engineers\, researchers\, developers\, and manufacturers to integrate ideas and collaborate effectively. \nWith projected sales targets and engineering challenges in mind\, this conference will give delegates the opportunity to hear the latest developments in cell design and technology\, thermal management\, lifecycle analysis and power electronics. This focus will allow engineers and manufacturers to leave the conference with an effective roadmap to a battery powered future. \nThis conference is co-located with H2ICE: The Engine of the Future?\, taking place on 12 November. Attendees to either event will have access to shared networking opportunities throughout the day. Attendees will receive copies of the slides from both events. \n“Excellent event to keep up to speed with developments in the industry. There are many battery events around but this stands out being run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers with the high quality of the content and attendees from across the automotive industry”\nGlobal Electrification Services Leader\, HORIBA MIRA \n“The event was extremely informative with up to date ideas and developments from a range of different companies with both complementary and contrasting viewpoints on the future direction of the industry. It has been reassuring to see the commonalities in the challenges facing those working in EV battery-related product development”\nDevelopment Engineer\, Constellium \nEV Batteries: Electrified Vehicle Engineering – Call for Posters: Submit your abstract by 2 September \nTaking place on 12-13 November 2024 at the British Motor Museum in Warwick\, this full day engineering conference is the chance to meet with fellow researchers and industry leaders to discuss the progress in battery electric and hybrid vehicle development. \nCalling all research groups dedicated to advancing battery technology and powertrain integration. We’re keen to showcase the rising generation of engineers and researchers. The emphasis is not only on results but equally on setting ambitious targets and innovative methods of approach. \nKey Focus Areas:\n• Novel cell and pack design\n• Battery management systems and safety testing\n• Thermal management systems updates\n• Hybrid projects and technologies\n• Sustainable lifecycle analysis for electrified propulsion

SUMMARY:OBN BioLearn: Lunchtime Power Hour - : IP and Contracts: Creating value not chaos
DESCRIPTION:A brilliant introduction to intellectual property and contracting\, which will be particularly helpful for early-stage companies\n\n\n\n\nSummary: \nWe all know that protecting IP and entering into well negotiated contracts is vital to the success of an early-stage business. But where do you start? How do you contract for maximum growth and innovation? If you want the low down on everything involved with protecting your valuable IP \, such as trade marks\, logos\, know–how\, trade secrets\, patents\, design rights\, and what contracts you might need to protect it all- this is the session for you. \nAgenda: \nIn this highly practical 60-minute session\, we will work through the following: \n\nThere are so many different types of IP – it’s hard enough to figure out what they all are\, let alone which ones are a priority for your company. What IP protection do you need? And how do you go about applying for all these different types of IP?\nYou’ve got investors interested in your company\, but they’re wanting to get a better understanding of your IP. What should be going into your NDAs to ensure that you’ve got a strong handle on your IP and know-how?\nIf you’re a university spin-out\, then you’re unlikely to have ownership of all the IP you need to develop and grow your company. What kind of licence agreement should you expect from the university? How can you be sure that you’ve got the rights you need to give investors’ confidence in your start-up?\nYour start-up is only growing from here on out. There are going to be other people\, employees and contractors and consultants\, helping in the development of the business and perhaps the development of the IP. How can you be sure that no one else ends up with a claim to your IP? What should go into your out-sourcing agreements and consultancy agreements to make sure you retain ownership and control of your IP?\n\nWho should attend? \nRegardless of whether you have started commercialising your IP or have yet to decide if you even want to spin-out\, this interactive session is for anyone wanting to understand the legal arrangements around intellectual property and to help their company grow. There will be no long power point presentation\, plenty of opportunities for questions and an interview format that keeps you engaged and learning through the jargon and detail.

SUMMARY:Self Care - What Works and What are the Barriers?
DESCRIPTION:About Liz Maughn who will be providing the session \n\n\nFounder of Empower Mental Health Training and Consultancy \nMHFA England Instructor Member since 2019 \nI began my working life as a Registered General Nurse. I quickly realised that the hustle and bustle of life on the ward was not for me. So I returned to college to train as a social worker\, later specialising in adult and older people’s mental health. Eventually I progressed into management and project/service development working on projects with health colleagues to improve information sharing and to develop services for people with dementia. \nAll of these very stressful career choices eventually took their toll on my mental health. After 20 years\, I decided to move away from social care\, but was soon drawn back! I had the fantastic experience of volunteering and then doing paid work in a mental health recovery service whose focus was therapeutic horticulture. It was whilst doing this work that I attended my first MHFA course.  \nI qualified as a MHFA instructor in 2019 and have spent the last 3 years delivering training both on-line and face to face in a wide range of organisations. This has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Finally I feel I have found my vocation. Highlights have been delivering training to groups of people from diverse communities\, some of whom have English as a second language or working with an interpreter with groups who spoke very little English.  \nI have learned that I need to look after my own mental health\, so in my spare time I enjoy spending as much time as possible in nature. Visits to gardens with family or friends\, walking my little terrier Bella\, or pottering in the garden. I am currently in the process of trying to establish a wildflower meadow! I also enjoy relaxing by listening to music\, reading\, or watching films.  \nLike to attend contact – Trudy on trudyfs@oxin.co.uk
