SUMMARY:Inspiring women in technology In conversation with...Dr Kristen Weatherby
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now open for the March session of our Inspiring Women in Tech webinar series In conversation with… Join commercial partner\, Sophie Burton-Jones\, in conversation with… Dr Kristen Weatherby\, founder of Breakthrough Labs. \nKristen is committed to helping change the culture around investing in female-founded tech start-ups by nurturing a community of women who are building successful businesses while bringing together a collective of investors who are committed to investing in women. \nBreakthrough Labs is a research-backed accelerator and community helping female founders get funded. Female entrepreneurs aren’t being funded at anywhere near the same level as their male counterparts\, regardless of their industry or country of origin. Research tells us why\, and this evidence is the foundation of everything Breakthrough Labs creates to support female founders of tech start-ups raising early-stage funding. \nIn this highly interactive session Kristen will share what has inspired her over the years\, obstacles she has faced and how she has overcome them. \nTo book your place\, please click on the button below. If you have accessibility needs or require any adjustments to enable you to take part in these webinars\, please let us know using our accessibility requirements form.

SUMMARY:Creative Problem Solving with Systemic Maps
DESCRIPTION:Bring your business challenge to this creative problem-solving workshop and learn the ‘grammar’ of systemic mapping. Through using visuals and 3D objects hidden relationship dynamics and blocks to growth as well as stakeholder needs and underused resources become visible. Consequently\, high impact actions crystalise and solution paths are unlocked. You will go away with a clearer picture of the future of your business and an increased capability for effective problem-solving and decision making. \nChallenges you could work on: \n\nComplex contexts (multiple investors or partners\, scale up\, regulations)\nConflicting opportunities; difficulties in making decisions; alignment of resources\nEvaluation of your product or service portfolio\nCommunication and people issues\, problems resurfacing repeatedly\n\n  \nTestimonials \n“I couldn’t really imagine that it would be any different to marking things out on paper like we usually do\, but to actually see our world in a 3D perspective somehow made a much deeper impression. The mapping enabled us to visualise our position in relation to our forces around us. It made me realise that our biggest strength is also our greatest vulnerability. I don’t think I had ever looked at our position like that before” (Travel Entrepreneur) \n“Attending one of Claudia’s workshops reaffirmed our belief in the power of creative problem-solving through visual thinking. A brilliant session helped us make a crucial\, real-life business decision\, helping us focus time and energy on the right areas when it could have been easy for us to become sidetracked by other opportunities. Visual thinking allows you to move the problems and challenges from your head into a 3D space that can be touched\, moved and manipulated\, offering you different perspectives and clarity of thought.  We recommend this approach for anyone facing complex business or personal challenges.” (Jamie Murray\, Co-founder Lawboxdesign) \n“I really enjoyed the workshop\, by the end of it I was able to visualise and think clearly through a major decision for my business by dividing the problem into two parts.” (Yankho Mpokosa\, Entrepreneur) \n  \n  \n  \n“This innovative mapping process is a refreshing method for tackling difficult challenges and broadens out one’s perspectives. I would recommend it as a novel way of solving a variety of intractable problems.” (CFO) \n“It is a wonderful tool I have now in my toolbox\, and I can apply it immediately” (Entrepreneur) \n  \nClaudia Filsinger is the Founder of Moving Maps Ltd. She facilitates creative-problem solving through coaching methods based on systemic and visual approaches. Her portfolio includes coaching\, workshops and leadership development with international companies at a broad range of growth stages in many industries. Her corporate background was in sales in IT and digital media. She lectured part-time in business\, management and coaching at Oxford Brookes Business School for 10 years\, including this workshop as part of Entrepreneurship Programmes. The purpose of her work is to build her clients’ critical reflection capabilities through self-coaching tools. She publishes regularly on coaching and leadership topics. \n  \nRichard Mohun is a Director at Moving Maps Ltd. Richard has widespread experience of different types of businesses at Managing Director and Director level in SMEs (product and process manufacturing; export-import distribution)\, General Manager in a plc.\, and project work for a leading Environmental NGO and for a Training and Enterprise Council. He also lectured at Oxford Brookes Business School in Strategy\, Creativity and Innovation and developed a postgraduate course in Business for Bioscience. \n  \nLocation: HPIC  \nDate: 21st March \nTime: 1pm – 2.30pm \nLunch provided: 12.30pm (let the team know of any dietary requirements) \nCost: FREE – Book early to avoid disappointment – email: trudyfs@oxin.co.uk

SUMMARY:Self Care - What Works and What are the Barriers?
DESCRIPTION:About Liz Maughn who will be providing the session \n\n\nFounder of Empower Mental Health Training and Consultancy \nMHFA England Instructor Member since 2019 \nI began my working life as a Registered General Nurse. I quickly realised that the hustle and bustle of life on the ward was not for me. So I returned to college to train as a social worker\, later specialising in adult and older people’s mental health. Eventually I progressed into management and project/service development working on projects with health colleagues to improve information sharing and to develop services for people with dementia. \nAll of these very stressful career choices eventually took their toll on my mental health. After 20 years\, I decided to move away from social care\, but was soon drawn back! I had the fantastic experience of volunteering and then doing paid work in a mental health recovery service whose focus was therapeutic horticulture. It was whilst doing this work that I attended my first MHFA course.  \nI qualified as a MHFA instructor in 2019 and have spent the last 3 years delivering training both on-line and face to face in a wide range of organisations. This has been a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Finally I feel I have found my vocation. Highlights have been delivering training to groups of people from diverse communities\, some of whom have English as a second language or working with an interpreter with groups who spoke very little English.  \nI have learned that I need to look after my own mental health\, so in my spare time I enjoy spending as much time as possible in nature. Visits to gardens with family or friends\, walking my little terrier Bella\, or pottering in the garden. I am currently in the process of trying to establish a wildflower meadow! I also enjoy relaxing by listening to music\, reading\, or watching films.  \nLike to attend contact – Trudy on trudyfs@oxin.co.uk

SUMMARY:OBN BioLearn: Lunchtime Power Hour - : IP and Contracts: Creating value not chaos
DESCRIPTION:A brilliant introduction to intellectual property and contracting\, which will be particularly helpful for early-stage companies\n\n\n\n\nSummary: \nWe all know that protecting IP and entering into well negotiated contracts is vital to the success of an early-stage business. But where do you start? How do you contract for maximum growth and innovation? If you want the low down on everything involved with protecting your valuable IP \, such as trade marks\, logos\, know–how\, trade secrets\, patents\, design rights\, and what contracts you might need to protect it all- this is the session for you. \nAgenda: \nIn this highly practical 60-minute session\, we will work through the following: \n\nThere are so many different types of IP – it’s hard enough to figure out what they all are\, let alone which ones are a priority for your company. What IP protection do you need? And how do you go about applying for all these different types of IP?\nYou’ve got investors interested in your company\, but they’re wanting to get a better understanding of your IP. What should be going into your NDAs to ensure that you’ve got a strong handle on your IP and know-how?\nIf you’re a university spin-out\, then you’re unlikely to have ownership of all the IP you need to develop and grow your company. What kind of licence agreement should you expect from the university? How can you be sure that you’ve got the rights you need to give investors’ confidence in your start-up?\nYour start-up is only growing from here on out. There are going to be other people\, employees and contractors and consultants\, helping in the development of the business and perhaps the development of the IP. How can you be sure that no one else ends up with a claim to your IP? What should go into your out-sourcing agreements and consultancy agreements to make sure you retain ownership and control of your IP?\n\nWho should attend? \nRegardless of whether you have started commercialising your IP or have yet to decide if you even want to spin-out\, this interactive session is for anyone wanting to understand the legal arrangements around intellectual property and to help their company grow. There will be no long power point presentation\, plenty of opportunities for questions and an interview format that keeps you engaged and learning through the jargon and detail.

SUMMARY:Cherwell Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) Business Grant Scheme Launch
DESCRIPTION:About this event \nAt this online event\, Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership (OxLEP) will be launching a new fund created to support businesses operating within Cherwell District’s rural economy\, and to strengthen the rural communities in the area. \nFunding for this particular grant scheme has been made available through Cherwell District Council’s Rural England Prosperity Fund allocation. \nThe Cherwell Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) Business Grant Scheme aims to support eligible businesses through grants\, ranging between £5\,000 and £20\,000 per business for capital projects. \nThe Scheme will open for Expressions of Interests via the OxLEP Business website on 21 October 2024\, closing at 5pm on 4 November\, before reopening for full applications on 14 November\, with a deadline of 12pm on 25 November. \nTo apply for a grant\, all interested businesses must have been trading within the Cherwell area for at least one full financial year and have attended the grant launch webinar. \nBusinesses successful in securing a Cherwell Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) Business Grant will be required to have defrayed and claimed all grant-related project expenditure by 27 March 2025. \nFor more information on this Scheme\, go to: https://oxlepbusiness.co.uk/repf/ \nNB: Please note that you will need to register separately on Zoom in order to join this webinar. We encourage you to do this at the same time as registering on Eventbrite\, which is very quick and simple and will take no more than 2-3 minutes\, by clicking ‘Access Link’ above and then ‘Join Now’ and filling in the registration form\, as this will save you time and mean you can immediately join the webinar on the day. \nShould all of the places be taken when you come to book\, simply email the team at business@oxfordshirelep.com and they will prioritise you for any future event.
